Holiday Food and Wine Pairings

The Holiday season can be a very stressful time when it comes to cooking or hosting parties. It is important to set the mood right with good food and drinks. Here are a few delicious holiday foods to pair with your favorite wines this Holiday season!

Pinot Noir

My personal favorite, Pinot Noir is a great wine to pop open during the Holiday’s. With a hint of vanilla, there are wonderful fruity flavors including cranberry, cherry, and raspberry. There is a very crisp, sweet taste which always leaves me wanting just one more glass. A dish that pairs perfectly with Pinot Noir is Smoky Glazed Ham with Red Pepper Jelly. Ham is always a big hit during the Holiday’s, so why not give this one a try! It takes a few hours to roast this ham, so be sure to set aside around 3 to 4 hours of oven space. Moscato d’Asti

Moscato wines are very light and sweet, and have nice hints of fruits such as peach, pineapple, pear, apple, orange, and more. This wine is commonly paired with desserts because of the sweetness, and really enhances the flavor of many dishes. A wonderful holiday dessert that pairs great with Moscato d’Asti is Poached Pears with Prunes. I know, I know, it doesn’t sound like the chocolatey, rich dessert you were picturing for your Holiday celebration, but give it a try! It is very unique and will most definitely be something you and your friends and family will want to make more often! This dish only takes about 30-35 minutes to make, so it is a very quick and easy recipe that is worth your time. Cabernet Sauvignon

This well-known favorite has a large variety of flavors. It has a lot of dark fruit flavors, such as blackberries, plums, and black cherry, and also has some savory flavors that have a peppery taste. A delicious holiday meal that pairs perfectly with a good Cab is a Rosemary-Pepper Beef Rip Roast with Porcini Jus.
